Cemetery

The cemetery is located at 100 First Avenue, Zillah, WA.
Hours:

April 1st – August 31st, 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
September 1st –March 31st, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Artificial Flowers may be placed from November 1st – March 1st.

Flowers must be removed before Wednesday of each week or will be removed by the city and disposed of.

Funeral services are scheduled, so people are at the gate by 2:00 p.m.

AFTER THE SERVICEWe realize that losing a loved one is a difficult time for you and your family. We want you to be able to focus on what’s most important during the time you are planning the service.

Conduct Prohibited.

The following activities shall be prohibited in any area within 50 feet of a grave site:
A. No person shall permit a dog, other than service dogs, to come upon cemetery property.
B. Firearms are not permitted on cemetery grounds except for funeral ceremonies involving the firing of weapons in salute and those in possession of law enforcement personnel.
C. Speeding in excess of 10 miles per hour within the cemetery grounds is prohibited.
D. Loud or boisterous conduct is prohibited.
E. A person over the age of 18 years may not allow children to play or move about the cemetery unattended after having brought said children into the cemetery. (This prohibition does not apply to the unused cemetery property where sports activities are permitted.)
F. No activities involving preparation or provision of food or beverages, including but not limited to barbecues, meals, buffets, or similar activities. (This prohibition does not apply to the unused cemetery property where sports or other activities are permitted.)
G. No weed spraying, hoeing, or weed-eating is allowed by unauthorized personnel.
H. Except as otherwise provided in Municipal Code Chapter 8.08.020 - Fireworks Ban, it is unlawful for any person to use, possess, ignite or discharge fireworks in the cemetery.
I. No liquor in the cemetery per RCW 66.44.250.

Marker/headstone installation rules.

Markers/headstones are required for all burial lots. When you make plans for burial, the city collects a marker setting fee. At the time of burial, a temporary marker will be installed. The amount of money assessed for a permanent Zillah marker will be credited toward the installation of a commercial headstone if it is made available for installation within 60 days from the date of the burial.

After 60 days from the date of burial, if a commercial headstone is not received by the city, the cemetery sexton will set a Zillah permanent grave marker. When that permanent marker is set, the fee you paid becomes non-refundable. If you or your family plan to purchase a commercial headstone, you must do so within 60 days of the burial date so that a permanent marker is not placed. If circumstances are beyond your control, an additional 30 days will be permitted to make the commercial headstone available. Ornamental/floral regulations.

The city maintenance crew works hard to maintain the cemetery grounds. To facilitate that maintenance process, please be aware and adhere to the following regulations regarding ornaments, objects, toys, flags, and floral arrangements for placement on lots/gravesites.

No boxes, shells, pinwheels, metal toys, wood toys, plastic toys, chairs, settees, glass objects of any kind, wood ornaments, or similar objects may be placed on a lot/gravesite.
No more than two flower arrangements may be placed on each lot/gravesite. Said flower arrangements must be placed in a permanent vase, a temporary vase placed next to the marker/headstone, or may be laid on the marker/headstone itself.
In addition to flower arrangements, there may be placed on or adjacent to the marker/headstone no more than two flags (not to exceed three feet in height), two balloons, and one stuffed animal or doll adjacent to the headstone/marker.
Artificial flowers are only permitted between November 1st and March 1st.
No food, beverages, or beverage containers may be placed on a lot/gravesite.
No ornaments or floral arrangements may be placed upon an unused gravesite or lot.

Said rules and regulations shall apply throughout the year except for Memorial Day weekend (Thursday through Monday), Mother’s Day, and Father’s Day. On these days, and for one week after a burial, there will be no limit to the number of flowers, balloons, and/or flags placed on a lot/gravesite, and stuffed animals will also be permitted.
